. . . the clutch all mean the same thing, correct?

To clarify, when learning how to push start a car with a manual transmission I was told to “pop” the clutch. Meaning, you have the clutch pushed all the way in and suddenly release it.

I always see people saying kick the clutch or dump the clutch and it seems like it means the same thing, but maybe not?

Yup

(for the most part, I interpret a clutch kick as more of something once the vehicle is in motion and you want to break the tires loose)

I thought they were different

Pop/dump the clutch: release the clutch quickly

Clutch kick: pushing in the clutch while moving, revving the engine up, and then dumping the clutch to achieve wheel spin.

Not completely, at least not to me. In my head:

Dump means to rev the engine up and then let go of the clutch pedal suddenly for hectic smokey burnouts yo. Pop/Kick to me both mean quickly clutching in and then back out again suddenly to break the tires loose (hence ‘kick’ the clutch), or, in the case of bump-starting a car, quickly doing the same to lock the already rolling wheels with the driveline for a second to turn the engine over if the starter isn’t working.

Not quite. Popping the clutch is what you do when bump starting a car. You get the car rolling, quickly release the clutch and then as soon as the engine catches you put the clutch back in if you don’t have enough speed to be above a stable idle.

Dumping the clutch is when you are stopped, build up the revs, and quickly release the clutch to violently launch the car.

A clutch kick is a drifting technique used to break the rear tires free while also accelerating the car into the corner. You come into the corner with ~ 60-80% throttle applied, hold that throttle steady, and you quickly “kick” the clutch to bounce the pedal off the floor. The down stroke lets the revs build while the return pops the tires free.

I've actually never heard kick the clutch before. I learned something today.

That’s how I get my underpowered Miata to break traction in the snow or forest service roads :)

What I think is

Popping the clutch is how you start a car when the battery or starter is dead. Get car rolling pop the clutch to start engine

Dumping the clutch: the car is at a dead stop, you rev up the engine and let off the clutch suddenly to spin the tires.

Clutch kick: like dumping the clutch but used to get the car sideways when entering a turn to drift, or correcting an under steering situation. And you really “kick” it in and back out.
